MayaWalk Tours FAQs

About atm Cave

Yes, you can do the tour if you are staying outside of San Ignacio. Mayawalk Tours provides shuttle services throughout the country. Feel free to contact us for a quote/Meeting time and location (Direct to contact page)

Many guests have asked these questions or suggested meeting us at the parking lot on their own. We found that more than 80% of guests who opt to meet us at the cave parking lot get lost and miss the tour. To avoid this, we suggest a mutual meeting point that is easy to locate, and we have our guests drive behind us.

You do need a licensed tour guide to enter the ATM tour. It is a legal requirement that the tour guide is affiliated with a tour company for any tours in Belize. You can book your tours through the tour operator. If you would like, we also provide exclusive/private tours where it would be just you and the guide. You can book it here: Connect them to the Exclusive ATM Cave tour.

You can wear regular shorts along with a T-shirt.

There is a height requirement of 40 inches for kids going on cave tours. Please exercise due diligence to know if your child can be in a cave for long periods, and also follow the guide’s instructions.

Yes you can bring your cameras on all our tours except the ATM Cave.  Please protect your cameras accordingly.

You need socks for the preservation of the dry chamber inside the ATM cave. The oils from your feet, and/or the imprint of your shoes can damage the flowstones of the dry chamber. We recommend wearing socks at the beginning of your tour. It is fine if your socks are wet upon entering the dry chamber. However, if you prefer dry socks, the tour guide can keep your socks in his dry bag.

Unfortunately, the government banned all electronic devices from entering the cave. However, we do have stock photos of the cave that we send to our guests which is the reason why we ask for email. If you bring your cameras they will need to stay in the van at the parking area. If you need your phone to monitor insulin levels, the tour guide can carry it in his dry bag and provide it to you when needed .

The guide is the only one allowed to take in a bag inside ATM Cave, since you must enter the cave empty-handed. Please communicate with your tour guide and give him whatever medication or inhalers you need. For other tours, you can keep your medications/inhalers, etc with you.
